School system
Hong Kong’s educational system has its roots in the British school system. It is divided into kindergarten, primary school (P1-P6) and secondary school (F1-F7). Secondary school includes 3 years of junior secondary school (F1-F3) and four years of senior secondary school (F4-F7) of which the last two years are counting towards the A-Level certificate. The school year starts in September, with a school break for Christmas. There is also a break for the Chinese New Year in January/February. The school year usually ends in late June.
As an EF High School Year student, you will attend an English medium school in which all subjects are taught in English. Most schools offer mandarin and Cantonese as “regular” subjects (not for beginners). Most schools require that their students wear a school uniform.
Subjects
In Junior secondary school students are given a broad range of subjects, while senior secondary school is designed to prepare its students for higher education.
School activities and sports
Sports like badminton, basket ball and football are popular and these, as well as other after school activities, are encouraged by the High Schools in Hong Kong.
