Discovery Tours
There is a whole world of adventure to explore in Costa Rica and EF’s very own Discovery Tours will take you on a journey of wonder and excitement. White water rafting, hanging bridges, river adventures and volcanoes are just a few examples of what lies in store for you.
The tours are all supervised by a tour director and EF representatives and mainly take place during your school vacations. Host siblings and high school friends are also welcome to join you.
We put together new travel itineraries every year. Details are available when you arrive in your host country.
Here are the details of 3 sample tours. These details refer to the first day of each tour.
Example tours:
Tortuguero (4 days):
The tour starts with a bus ride out of the San José highlands, through cloud forest and banana plantations. Board a lancha (boat) through the remarkable Tortuguero canals to a jungle lodge. Tortuguero National Park is famous for the sea turtles that nest there every year.
Guanacaste (4 days):
Guanacaste is in the North-West of Costa Rica on the Pacific coast. Journey down the Corobici River and continue on to the Tenorio River. You will come across hot springs, sulfuric ponds and geysers. Visit the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park which is home to approximately 357 species of birds, several waterfalls, a small lake, and contains what is probably the largest concentration of purple orchids in the world.
Tamarindo (4 days):
Your adventure will begin on treetops. There is approximately a half mile of cable between the trees, where you will hang in a harness and safety equipment discovering the forest from a totally different point of view. Then, enjoy a river cruise on the Tempisque River while you admire crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas and thousands of different birds that migrate to the park.
